This is not your typical wine tasting!

One of the Makerspace’s directors volunteers at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition and on January 13 will come to the Makerspace with 50 to 60 bottles of wine that have just been tasted by the judges for the 2018 competition..  In addition to the wines fresh from the judging the SF Chronicle wine competition has generously contributed several cases of additional wine. We will also have hand crafted wine and mead made by some of our members that you can try and live jazz during the event.

Normally you would pay $15 to $50 to taste a few wines from one winery.  This is an opportunity to taste an assortment of white and red wines from the nation’s largest wine competition.  The SF Chronicle wine competition has over 7000 wines entered from almost every state in the US.  This year we are sharing this tasting experience with friends in the local community to raise funds to sustain and improve the facilities and equipment at the Makerspace.  We are recommending a donation of $25 per person to attend the tasting, although larger donations would be greatly appreciated. All donations will benefit Benicia Makerspace, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that encourages hand-on learning and entrepreneurship in the Bay Area.

Due to the large number of wines to taste, during the first half of the event we will be giving mini-pours of each wine to allow all of our guests taste as many wines as possible.  In the second half of the event you are welcome to re-taste any of the wines that you appreciated.

Judge For Yourself

From last year’s private tasting we can attest that some of the wines will not be your preferred style(dump buckets will be available) and some of the wines will be outstanding – including gold medal winners.  This is one of the most interesting aspects of wine tasting– everyone’s pallet varies and we will each appreciate the assortment of wines differently.  We will also be tasting homemade Mead and a homemade wine produced by two of our Makerspace members, Adam Boring and Jim Kennon.  We will also have live Jazz music by Stephen Newcomb, and we will be giving tours of our shop for people who are interested in seeing the kinds of things our members are able to do at Benicia Makerspace.

Attendance is limited so please RSVP to the Makerspace meetup event:

Please note that only people 21 years old or greater will be allowed into the event, IDs are required to participate and anyone showing signs of intoxication will be refused further alcoholic beverages (it’s the law).  We also recommend being cognizant of your wine consumption and using a designated driver, taxi, Uber, or Lyft if prudent.  Makerspace members will be available to assist with arranging for transportation home if desired.

We want this to be a fun event and hope that everyone will have a great experience!
